About

Southern Inland Women's Rugby Union is a sports club located in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia. It operates under the Southern Inland Rugby Union (SIRU) Board, which is responsible for the overall management and operations of Rugby in the Zone. The SIRU Board comprises a President, two Vice Presidents, and four Directors who work closely with the Competition & Rugby Services Manager to administer competitions and uphold the SIRU Constitution and Competition Rules.

Historically, the Southern Inland Rugby Union has focused on fostering the growth of Rugby and implementing programmes that align with the national direction of the sport, particularly in the Junior and Women's spheres. The club aims to create pathways for players from the local clubs to the SIRU Representative Programmes and beyond. New programmes are also set to roll out in 2020.

The SIRU Senior and Junior Competitions cover a vast geographical area from Albury in the South to Young in the North and from Tumut in the East to Hay in the West. They involve a total of 12 towns/clubs, namely Albury, Cootamundra, Deniliquin, Grenfell, Griffith, Hay, Leeton, Temora, Tumut, Wagga Wagga, West Wyalong, and Young. The competitions consist of various teams representing these clubs.

Southern Inland Rugby Union is affiliated with the Australian Capital Territory and Southern New South Wales Rugby Union Limited (ACT & SNSW RU Limited), also known as ACT Brumbies. The partnership with ACT Brumbies aims to achieve SIRU objectives and foster the growth of Rugby in the zone. ACT Brumbies employs two Development Officers to implement and promote programmes that increase participation rates at all levels across the zone.

The club's website serves as a platform to keep members and supporters updated on Rugby-related matters in the zone. Regular updates can be found on the website, as well as on the SIRU Facebook and Instagram pages.

The SIRU Board, consisting of dedicated and experienced individuals, is responsible for the overall management and operations of Rugby Union in the Southern Inland Zone of New South Wales. Under the provisions of the Associations Incorporation Act 2009, the SIRU Board operates in accordance with the SIRU Constitution, Strategic Directions, and any resolutions passed by the SIRU Council. Each Board Member also has the responsibility of overseeing a specific club and maintains regular contact with them.

Leading the SIRU Board is President Warwick Grant, who has a long association with Rugby in the southern inland region. With his extensive experience, including playing representative level Rugby for Riverina, Southern Provinces, and NSW Country, Warwick is passionate about grassroots Rugby and expanding opportunities for clubs within the sport.

Southern Inland Women's Rugby Union, under the umbrella of the Southern Inland Rugby Union, strives to promote and grow the sport of Rugby in the Wagga Wagga community and the broader Southern Inland Zone. With a focus on development, competition, and fostering a love for the game, the club provides a platform for women to participate in Rugby at various levels and showcases the talent and dedication of its players.
