Southern Highlands Bushwalkers Inc is an outdoor activities club based in Bowral – Mittagong, in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. The club's main mission is to develop friendships through exploring natural wilderness and National Parks. They cater to the needs of both individuals and families, offering a variety of activities ranging from short day walks to overnight backpacking hikes and car camp out weekends. The club was originally formed in 1990 as the Highland Adventurers and underwent a name change to become the Southern Highlands Bushwalkers Inc in 1994.
Since its inception, membership has grown to approximately 60 members, with individuals coming from Palm Beach in the north to Goulburn in the south.
The Southern Highlands of New South Wales, where the club is located, is known for its diverse flora and fauna and provides access to many national parks and forested areas. The local terrain is undulating to steep, offering a variety of interesting and beautiful windblown features such as ridges, valleys, creeks, and gullies. The sandstone landscapes of the area also provide stunning views down the valleys formed by rivers like the Nattai. Off-track walking can be challenging, as it often involves traversing thick and difficult vegetation, requiring experience and good navigation skills.
Southern Highlands Bushwalkers Inc offers a range of activities, primarily consisting of day walks from moderately easy to strenuous. Additionally, the club organises overnight backpacking trips, car camps, and occasional bus trips to more distant destinations.
