Welcome to join Southern Districts Rugby Club. Whether you're an experienced rugby player or new to the sport, our club provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
Founded in 1972, Southern Districts Rugby Club has a rich history within the Victoria Rugby Union community. Originally known as “Skye Frankston,” the club was formed when local rugby enthusiasts responded to a message in the local newspaper's Public Notices. Since then, our club has grown and evolved, changing its name and location before finally settling at Riviera Reserve in Seaford.
The club proudly represents the Peninsula and surrounding areas, with players and members hailing from these regions. Our original colours of blue and gold reflect our heritage, with our first set of jerseys being repurposed Parramatta jerseys.
At Southern Districts Rugby Club, we boast top-notch facilities for club rugby. Our grounds feature two well-maintained playing fields and two training fields to support all our teams, from juniors to seniors. We also have a clubhouse that offers canteen and bar facilities, ensuring that our members and visitors feel welcome and entertained.
Our club field teams across various age groups, including Pathways Rugby for ages 6-10, Junior Rugby for ages 11-18, Senior teams, and a Masters (+35) team. Our teams have a strong track record of success, regularly participating in the Victorian Rugby Union finals fixtures. In fact, our Under 16's team claimed the 2018 U16's Blue premiership, while our U11's team competed in the 2019 final. Our Masters team also won the competition in both 2018 and 2019.
Additionally, our players have received representation honours, representing the Victorian State U16's Team and Southern Districts in the 2019 School Boys tour.
As part of our commitment to growth, our Senior programme is undergoing a rebuilding phase and competes in the leadingship Competition. We aim to expand our senior playing squad to a minimum of two teams in the future and strive to re-enter the Dewar Shield, the highest division of rugby in Victoria. To support these goals, we have appointed a new Head Coach, Henry Luapo, who brings a fantastic energy to the playing squad.
Southern Districts Rugby Club takes pride in being home to Melbourne Rebels' homegrown talent. Sione Tuipulotu spent his junior years at our club before progressing to senior rugby. He has since represented the Australian Under 20s squad, the Melbourne Rising, and the Melbourne Rebels. Sione and his family remain active members of our club and frequently attend junior and senior fixtures.
Whether you're a player or a social member, Southern Districts Rugby Club welcomes you to be a part of our community. Join us as we work towards fostering a love for the game and building a successful rugby club in Melbourne.
