South West Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Association Inc – Eaton is a sports club located in Bunbury, Western Australia. The club is dedicated to promoting and teaching the traditional martial art of Goju-Ryu Karate-Do. With a strong emphasis on self-defence and streetwise techniques, the club aims to provide a safe and welcoming environment for individuals of all ages and abilities to learn and train in karate.
The club was founded by Peter Davis, a 5th Dan (Shihan) black belt with over 40 years of experience in martial arts. Peter's passion for martial arts began in the 1960s when he was inspired by an actress named Honour Blackman, who was a black belt in Judo. He started training in Judo at the age of ten, which served him well against bullies during his school years. At the age of 17, Peter decided to take up karate and joined a club in the UK, where he trained in the style of Kyokushin Karate.
In 1986, Peter began training in Goju Ryu Karate at the newly opened Capel Club under the guidance of Alan Burdett Shihan. Due to his dedication and training four nights a week, Peter achieved his 1st Dan Blackbelt in 1987. In 1988, he took over the Eaton Dojo as Sensei when Doug Harwood Sensei had to relocate. Peter continues to lead the club, with the support of assistant instructor Stephen Sawyer Sempai, who is a 3rd Dan black belt.
