The South Launceston Football Club, also known as the Bulldogs, is an Australian rules football club that competes in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA). The club was formed through a merger between City-South and East Launceston in 1986, two clubs that were part of the former Northern Tasmanian Football Association.
In the past, the club has competed in various leagues, including the TFL Statewide League, the Northern Tasmanian Football League, and the Tasmanian State League before returning to community level in 2014. The Bulldogs' home ground is Youngtown Memorial Oval.
The club's motto is “Guerrieri impavidi,” which means “fearless warriors” in Italian. Their anthem is “It's A Grand Old Flag,” with slightly modified lyrics to include “the team of the red, white, and blue. ” The club colours are royal blue, red, and white, with red and white being inherited from City-South and blue from East Launceston.
During their time in the Statewide League, South Launceston struggled to find success, with their highest finish being 6th in 1992. However, after joining the NTFL in 1998, the club won back-to-back topships in 1998 and 1999. In the Tasmanian State League, the Bulldogs experienced a slump, but they rebounded in 2013 to win their first statewide topship.
Despite this success, the club decided not to pursue a further licence in the Tasmanian State League after the 2013 season. Instead, they joined the NTFA in 2014 and immediately won the senior topship in their first season. They went on to win back-to-back flags in 2015 by defeating Bridgenorth in the Grand Final.
The South Launceston Football Club is proudly sponsored by Toxfree Waste Management, located at 27-31 McKenzie Street, Launceston, TAS 7250.
Overall, the South Launceston Football Club is a resilient and successful club with a rich history in Australian rules football. Their commitment to the game and their community is evident through their achievements on and off the field.
