The South Coast Athletics Centre (SCAC) in Victor Harbour – Goolwa is a sports club dedicated to providing a fun and inclusive environment for athletes of all ages and abilities. With a motto of “Family, Fun, and Fitness,” SCAC actively encourages the whole family to get involved and have a go.
The competition season for SCAC runs from 15th October 2021 to 8th April 2022, with meets taking place every Friday. Athletes can arrive from 4:30pm for a warm-up before a 4:45pm start. Age groups range from Tiny Tots to Open, accommodating athletes of all ages.
SCAC offers a wide variety of events for athletes to participate in, including sprints, hurdles, middle distance running, race walking, high jump, long jump, triple jump, discus, shot put, and javelin/vortex. All events use equipment specifically designed to be appropriate for the size and ability of each athlete, sanctioned by the South Australian Little Athletics Association (SALAA) and Athletics South Australia (ASA).
The club features a barbecue stall, run by dedicated volunteers, which is available every Friday evening. This provides an opportunity for families and athletes to enjoy a meal together after the competition.
Registration for the 2021/22 season can be completed through the SALAA website by selecting South Coast LAC and inserting postcode '5211'. The emphasis at SCAC is on fun, fitness, and improvement, ensuring that athletes of all abilities have the opportunity to strive for their personal bests each week. Results for each meet are uploaded to Results HQ, allowing athletes to access their performance with a unique username and password.
SCAC believes that athletics not only contributes to the development of fundamental skills in running, jumping, and throwing but also teaches valuable life lessons such as discipline, respect, and teamwork. Older athletes are also given the opportunity to compete at the Adelaide Athletics Stadium with ASA, extending their athletic journey to the Master's Level.
Competition meets are held on Friday afternoons at the Victor R-7 School Oval on The Parkway in Victor Harbour, with different finishing times for each age group. Athletes are requested to arrive at 4:30pm for a warm-up before the 4:45pm start. Summer runs from October to March.
Optional training sessions are held on Wednesdays from 4:45pm to 6:30pm during the season and are highly recommended for athletes looking to improve their skills and performance.
