Somers Tennis Club is a well-established sports club located in Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 1929, the club has a rich history and has been providing social and competitive tennis opportunities to the local community for many years.
Originally situated at Garden Square with two asphalt courts on Shire Council land, Somers Tennis Club relocated to RW Stone Reserve on Camp Hill Road in 1984. The move provided the club with two plexipave courts with lighting, improving the playing conditions for its members. In 1994, a new clubhouse was built by dedicated volunteers, replacing the old tin shed that had previously served as the club's clubhouse.
In 2005, the club further expanded its facilities by adding a third court. This time, a synthetic grass court with lights was introduced. In 2013, the two plexipave courts were resurfaced with Rebound Ace HSA, a cushioned hard court system designed specifically for outdoor use. And in 2018, the synthetic grass court was also resurfaced with Rebound Ace HSA, and the halogen lights were replaced with more energy-efficient LED lights.
Somers Tennis Club prides itself on maintaining a healthy membership, consisting of approximately two-thirds local members and one-third non-resident members. The club's scenic surroundings are often the envy of others, and its outstanding facilities cater to both social and serious tennis players, as well as the broader community who regularly utilise the clubhouse.
New members are always welcome at Somers Tennis Club, and the club encourages visitors to support its sponsors and supporters, whose information can be found on the Sponsors page of their website.
