Skipz is a high-energy sports club located in Melbourne, Australia, catering to kids aged 6 and over. The club specialises in teaching the sport of rope skipping to popular music tracks. The programme is designed for all skill levels, so even those without any prior talent can quickly grasp the techniques. By mastering various skipping techniques, kids can skip faster than they ever imagined.
The benefits of skipping include improvements in flexibility, coordination, balance, and cardiovascular fitness. In fact, studies have shown that skipping can provide the same results as running for twice the amount of time, but it feels less strenuous. At Skipz, kids can experience these benefits for themselves.
The classes at Skipz are taught by experienced and enthusiastic instructors. Initially, students join as recreational skippers but have the opportunity to advance to demonstration or competition levels if they desire an extra challenge. The club uses a variety of rope lengths, from single to double dutch, and encourages skipping individually, in partners, and in groups. Additionally, other equipment such as hoops and balls are incorporated into the classes to promote creativity and coordination.
Enrolment at Skipz is now open, and classes are held after school. To learn more about the club or book a class, interested individuals can visit the club's website and enrol. The club also provides a timetable on their website for easy reference. For specific inquiries, individuals can contact the club via email or phone.
Skipz has two locations in Brighton, Victoria. The classes are held at St Leonards Uniting Church Hall and St Joan of Arc Church Hall. Fees for 2016 are $15. 00 per class, payable in advance on a term basis.
Additionally, there is a registration fee of $25. 00 for new students. Families with two or more students are eligible for a 10% discount on fees. No specific uniform is required, other than the T-shirt provided by the club.
Students are advised to come to class wearing leggings or shorts and runners.
Skipz also organises performances, with their annual concert scheduled to be held on November 18 at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in 2016. More information regarding the club's skills will be provided in the future, and interested individuals can contact the club for further information.
The Head of Coaching at Skipz is Kerryn Higgins, who has over 20 years of experience teaching children. Kerryn trained as a Classical Ballet Instructor in London and has worked as a personal trainer in a leading Melbourne gym. She has been involved in skipping instruction for over 12 years and has coached a Bayside school team to win the State Skipping Championships. Kerryn has a great natural way with children and loves to see the improvements they can make in skipping, which not only enhance their fitness and coordination but also boost their confidence.
