Seiko-Kai Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Australia is a traditional Japanese Karate club located in Brisbane. They are recognised as one of the few clubs in the area to have their own full-time Karate Centre, providing a great atmosphere for training and building relationships.
The club emphasises the “Traditional” Japanese Karate style, focusing on passing on the traditions of Mabuni Sensei. They maintain a close connexion with Karate's Japanese/Okinawan heritage and regularly visit Japan to ensure their teachings meet the standards set by Headmaster Suzuki Sensei and the seniors within the Seiko-Kai organisation.
Seiko-Kai Karate-Do offers both a traditional training environment and a family-focused centre, with many students having other family members involved in the club. They primarily teach karate techniques based on self-defence but also train students in the sporting aspect for those interested in competitions. They are members of the Australian Karate Federation Inc. (AKF) and Queensland Karate Association Inc (QKA), providing opportunities for competition at local, state, national, and international levels.
The club is led by Australian Chief Instructor Colin Punyer, an 8th Dan Shihan in Seiko-Kai Shito-Ryu and a 4th Dan in Matayoshi Kobudo. Colin began his Karate journey in 1983 and has since visited Japan over 50 times to further his knowledge and training. He continues to actively train and learn Karate, visiting Japan four times a year.
Seiko-Kai Karate-Do is located at Unit 5/1191 Anzac Ave, Kallangur, approximately 30 kilometres from Brisbane CBD. The Karate Centre is easily accessible, just a 10-minute walk from Petrie Train Station.
