Sandstorm Beach Club is Brisbane's largest beach volleyball venue, located in the QSAC precinct. Founded in 2005 by Australian 5x Beach Volleyball Olympian, Natalie Cook OAM OLY, the club boasts 8 full-sized beach volleyball courts, making it the largest of its kind in Australia. The club is a licenced venue and offers a wide range of activities including social leagues, training sessions, court hire, private functions, and sports club celebrations.
Conveniently located with plenty of free parking, Sandstorm welcomes hundreds of players and visitors each week. The venue is well-equipped with a spacious amenities building that includes hot and cold showers. The family-run business is owned and operated by Australian Beach Volleyball Olympian, Matt Grinlaubs, and his wife, Jodi, who have over 30 years of experience in beach volleyball. Whether you're playing, training, or simply looking for a chat, Matt, and the team at Sandstorm are always available to assist and answer any questions.
Sandstorm is proud to be the training venue for the Australian Women’s Beach Volleyroos, attracting elite beach volleyball players from around the country. Visitors to Sandstorm may have the opportunity to rub shoulders with Australian beach volleyball superstars and witness their training sessions.
The club offers a variety of leagues and tournaments for players of all skill levels. The Beach Volleyball Social League takes place on different nights each week, providing players with the chance to join a team or find their place in the league. Sandstorm also offers court hire for casual play, training sessions for open and junior players, as well as tournaments and camps throughout the year.
Friday Nights Under Lights is a popular event at Sandstorm, where players can enjoy open play from 5pm to 9pm. For a small fee of $10 per person, participants can indulge in the exciting atmosphere of beach volleyball under the lights while enjoying drinks with friends. Some Friday nights may be closed for private functions or tournament preparation, so it is advisable to check the schedule beforehand.
In addition to its fantastic sporting facilities, Sandstorm also serves as an ideal function venue. With a large outdoor area featuring sand and artificial grass, as well as two spacious undercover areas with festoon lighting, the club can accommodate both large and smaller groups. The team at Sandstorm can arrange various amenities for events, including food trucks, jumping castles, mechanical bulls, photo booths, and DJs. With access to a sound system and ample refrigeration, the venue offers a stress-free environment to host any occasion.
