At Samurai Martial Arts Institute, we believe in the principles of the Samurai warrior spirit. Our programmes are designed to not only teach martial arts techniques but also instil discipline, respect, and a strong work ethic in our students.
One of our main focuses is Judo, a dynamic and exciting sport that originated in Japan. We offer Judo classes for children aged 6–13 years and cadets/adults aged 14 and above. Our experienced instructors provide comprehensive training in both our Fletcher Community Centre and Garden Suburb Community Hall locations.
Judo is known for its profound philosophy, which emphasises respect for opponents and training partners. The International Judo Code of Etiquette guides our practise, promoting good sportsmanship and a healthy mind-body connexion. Dr. Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo, introduced this philosophy in 1882, and it continues to shape the sport to this day.
Participating in Judo has numerous benefits. It is the second most practised sport in the world and the only martial art that incorporates full-contact grappling skills in standing and ground positions. These skills are invaluable for self-defence, especially for women and girls. Judo is also recognised as one of the most physically demanding sports, working all muscle groups while developing fitness, coordination, flexibility, and mental resilience.
Our Judo academy is affiliated with the International Judo Federation, allowing our members access to a global network of affiliated clubs. Wherever you go, you'll have the opportunity to train with judo practitioners and experience different teaching styles and techniques.
