The Ryde Little Athletics Centre and is well-maintained to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for athletes of all ages.
Ryde Athletics Centre has been a valued part of the Ryde community for over 60 years. Their mission is to help their members achieve their personal best and promote the values of fun, family, and fitness. The Centre offers Saturday morning competitions at Dunbar Park from September to the end of March for Little Athletes ages 3-17 in the Junior/Little A division, as well as for athletes aged 11 to Vets in the older divisions. Their Senior Club members, aged 11 and up, have the opportunity to compete at Athletics NSW events throughout Sydney during the athletics season.
The Centre encourages participation in all events but does not enforce it. Athletes have the choice to compete in the events they prefer. The full programme for each age group is on a two-week cycle, ensuring that each event happens at least once every two weeks. Saturday competitions usually start at 8:30am, with a warm-up on the oval beginning at 8:15am.
The starting times for specific events may vary depending on the programme week and age group. The Centre also offers a wet weather programme for days when the track is usable, but the weather is inclement and participation numbers may be small.
To ensure the safety of all participants, the Centre asks that athletes inform their Age Manager if they need to leave early. With enough helpers, the Centre aims to complete all competitions well before noon. Some age groups may finish earlier, while others may have slightly later finish times for events such as Javelin and Race Walking. The Tiny Tots age group typically finishes by 9:30am.
Dunbar Park is a dedicated athletics venue, providing an ideal location for school athletics carnivals. Unlike other parks used for multiple sports, Dunbar Park is solely used for athletics, preventing the formation of mud patches and ensuring the quality of the running tracks. The Centre takes pride in its ownership of Dunbar Park and its commitment to maintaining the facility for the benefit of all participants.
