The Royal Geelong Yacht Club invites Members and visitors to take advantage of our friendly and welcoming Wednesday VRCA Twilight Sailing. Held weekly from October to March each year, Twilight sailing is an unforgettable social experience. This is a great opportunity to meet skippers and crew, experience some friendly rivalry and most importantly, have an enjoyable evening on the water.
Visitors are welcome to experience sailing on Wednesday nights by using the Day Pass Membership system. There is no charge for Day Pass Membership on Wednesday nights (for the first 12 passes). Please contact RGYC reception via email, or 5229 3705 if you are a visitor to the Club and would like assistance in finding a boat to sail on for the evening.
Sailing on a Wednesday night at the Club is a casual Social Sailing Night, with over 40 boats competing for aggregate points from October to April each year (Daylight Saving Time). There will be a number of boats with guests on board; skippers can generally take 2 guests each, maximum numbers are 20 guests.
There are 2 Divisions racing on the night, Division 1 and 2. Whilst many skippers are happy to take out guests, there are some things you should know:
1. Guests are asked to be at the club by 5.15pm, please don’t be late (Skippers won’t wait for you), they have start times that they must be out on the water by.
2. Space is limited on boats, for safety reasons a Skipper can generally only take 1 to 2 visitors per boat.
3. Sailing is highly dependent on the weather, if it is too windy, it may be deemed unsafe to hold the race and the event will be cancelled. Cancellation of a race is generally called within an hour of the start time.
