Rory Williamson School of Dance

Rory Williamson School of Dance (RWSOD) is the most established dance studio in Coolum, located in the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Led by Principal Rory Williamson and a team of qualified and professional teachers, RWSOD offers classes in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, and Acrobatics.

At RWSOD, the goal is to provide the highest level of dance education in a friendly, supportive, and positive environment. The school believes in the importance of creating smart, confident, and healthy dancers, from the youngest budding dancers to those aspiring to be professionals.

The classes at RWSOD are exciting, fulfilling, and inspiring. They follow set guidelines, syllabus, and learning strategies that combine discipline and creativity. The school has been operating in Coolum Beach since 1999 and has built a strong student base and earned respect and recognition in the local area and surrounding regions.

In addition to regular classes, RWSOD also offers teacher training and mentorship to qualifying candidates, as well as VET accredited courses. The studio is conveniently located at 1/12 Williams St, Coolum Beach. The school also utilises the Uniting Church Hall, Cnr Heathfield & Elizabeth Sts, Coolum Beach for some classes.

1. Contemporary: A dance style that draws on classical ballet, jazz, and modern dance, developing over the past century.

2. Hip Hop: A modern or street style of dance that is performed to hip hop music and has evolved alongside hip hop culture for over 50 years.

3. Jazz: Jazz dance encompasses various modern and contemporary dance styles and has been in development for over a century.

4. Acrobatics: Acrobatics for dance is a skills class that teaches students acrobatic movements safely and effectively. These skills can be incorporated into dance or learned as a genre on their own.

5. Tap: Tap dance involves creating a rhythmic “tapping” sound with the feet, achieved by wearing shoes with specially designed metal plates underneath the toe and heel.

6. Ballet: Classical ballet is the traditional art form of dance that has been practised since the 16th century. It is characterised by turned out legs and pointed feet.

The RWSOD team consists of passionate and experienced instructors who are dedicated to nurturing the talent and potential of every student. Miss Edie, Miss Rory, Miss Tali, and Miss Emily are some key members of the creative team who bring their expertise and love for dance to the studio.

Miss Edie studied with RWSOD and excelled in exams and performances. Miss Rory, the Principal and founder of RWSOD, is a teacher, examiner, syllabus co-author, and mentor. Miss Tali, who has been with RWSOD since childhood, is currently undertaking her ADV Dance Teaching Certificate and specialises in Jazz, Classical ballet, and Hip Hop. Miss Emily, who has been dancing since she was 3 years old, is assisting classes as she pursues her teaching qualifications, with a focus on ballet.
