Roma Pony Club is a renowned sports club located in Maranoa Regional, Australia. Established in 1965, the club has been growing in influence and membership over the years. With an annual membership of over 50 riding and non-riding members spanning from ages 2 to over 60, Roma Pony Club welcomes individuals of all ages and backgrounds who have a passion for horses and riding.
The club's primary objectives are to encourage young people to ride and enjoy various sports related to horses and riding. They provide thorough instruction in riding and horsemanship, emphasising the proper care of animals. Moreover, Roma Pony Club aims to promote high ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship, and loyalty, fostering strength of character and self-discipline among its members.
Rally Days, a significant feature of Roma Pony Club, take place on the second Sunday of every month at Corfe Park on Burtons Road. The activities commence at 8 am, with riders organised into groups based on their riding ability. Throughout the day, instructors conduct a range of exercises and activities, including warm-up exercises, games, flat work exercises, and cross country and jumping courses. For beginners, there are fenced arenas available.
Safety is of utmost importance at Roma Pony Club. At the start of each event, an instructor checks the gear to ensure compliance with PCAQ (Pony Club Association of Queensland) standards. Riders must wear helmets that are fastened securely and comply with PCAQ standards, which currently require accreditation to AS/NZ 3838 or better. In line with being a Sun Safe Organisation, helmets should be fitted with a full sun brim, and shirts are required to have collars and long sleeves for sun protection.
Additionally, flat soled riding boots must be worn. Stallions, rigs, and unleashed dogs are strictly prohibited on Pony Club grounds. Vaccination against tetanus and strangles is strongly recommended for horses due to their interaction with other horses. Horse and rider safety is given the highest priority within the club.
Uniforms are worn by members when representing Roma Pony Club in competitions or public functions. The club's uniform includes beige jodhpurs, a white long-sleeved collared shirt, a royal blue zipper tie, a navy blue pullover (optional), and a royal blue and white saddlecloth. The tie and saddlecloth can be purchased through the club.
Roma Pony Club hosts various competitions, including show jumping, jumping equitation, one-day events, and dressage. Additionally, their members actively participate in gymkhanas organised by clubs within their zone. Participants can choose from a range of events, such as sporting games, barrel races, rider classes, and presentation classes, with jumping available for older riders. Roma Pony Club appreciates that not all members may want to participate in every event, offering flexibility and options for individuals to compete based on their interests and skill levels.
Awards are presented to event place-getters, age group place-getters, and the winning club. Gymkhanas serve as fantastic opportunities for members to showcase their skills and compete with other horse enthusiasts.
Roma Pony Club warmly invites everyone interested in horses and riding to join them on their events and activities. For the latest updates, updates, and photos of their members' successes, the club encourages everyone to follow them on Facebook.
