About

Rats Cycling Club is a renowned sports club in Brisbane that caters to bicycle enthusiasts of all levels. Whether you are a seasoned rider or just starting out, Rats Cycling Club offers a welcoming and inclusive community for all members.

The club organises various activities and events to engage members and promote a healthy cycling lifestyle. Membership with Rats Cycling Club provides access to a wide range of benefits, including club rides, women's racing opportunities, and participation in upcoming events.

RATS Cycling Club Inc. is managed by a dedicated committee who ensure the smooth running of the club. Lonnie Toia serves as the President, supported by Vice President Pat Janes, Treasurer Michelle Sando, and Secretary Michelle Gane. Various subcommittees are also in place, with directors overseeing specific events and initiatives such as the Bayview Blast Race, Chicks in the Sticks Race, Cyclocross, Equipment, Logan Community Trailcare Alliance, and more.

Club rides are a major highlight of Rats Cycling Club, with rides organised at different distances and speed levels. To participate, riders must have AusCycling insurance, either through membership with Rats or another affiliated club. Social and training rides are available for members, providing an opportunity to improve skills and fitness levels.

One prominent ride organised by Rats Cycling Club is the Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning training ride at the Redlands Track Park. This ride, sponsored by PCS Coaching, offers riders a chance to enhance their mountain biking skills and intensity. The Saturday morning social ride is another popular event, open to Rats Club members and other financial AusCycling club members with appropriate insurance coverage. This ride caters to riders of varying abilities and fitness levels, with different routes planned each month.

Participants in the Saturday social ride are encouraged to have a medium level of fitness, as mountain biking can be physically demanding. New riders who are not members of Rats or another AusCycling Club can take advantage of a free 4-week trial membership from AusCycling or choose to purchase a monthly Lifestyle membership for $7.

The schedule for the Saturday social ride typically includes rides at locations like Daisy Hill, Scribbly Gums, and other areas within the Redlands. The ride starts at 7:30 am during colder months and 7:00 am in hotter months. The first and second weekends of the month are suitable for new riders, while the third weekend is an intermediate ride. The fourth and fifth weekends, if applicable, offer intermediate to advanced rides.

Ride leaders provide trail knowledge and riding hints along the way, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.

The Saturday social ride emphasises the social aspect of cycling, with the group maintaining contact at each trail junction to prevent riders from getting lost or left behind. This ride is highly recommended for those looking to experience mountain biking for the first time, although a certain level of fitness is necessary. Non-club members can find ride details and obtain more information on the Rats Cycling Club Facebook page.

With its wide range of activities and a strong sense of community, Rats Cycling Club is the perfect choice for cycling enthusiasts in Brisbane. Whether you are a competitive racer or a leisure rider, Rats Cycling Club welcomes everyone with open arms. Join Rats Cycling Club today and embark on an incredible journey of camaraderie, fitness, and adventure on two wheels.
