Queensland Masters Athletics (QMA) is a sports club based in Brisbane, Queensland. With a history spanning 50 years, QMA is dedicated to promoting fitness, fun, and friendship through a variety of athletic activities that cater to individuals of all skill levels, from beginners to age group elite athletes. Membership is open to individuals aged 30 and over, with the upper age limit extending to 100 and beyond.
Competition at QMA is organised into five-year age divisions, such as M40-44 and W55-59, ensuring that participants compete against others in their respective age groups. The association currently boasts a membership of approximately 400 individuals who come from diverse backgrounds, possess varying levels of ability, and hail from both Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Track and Field competitions in Southern Queensland typically take place from October to March/April, with the highlight being the State Championships held in March and the National Championships held over the Easter long weekend. The host state for the National Championships changes each year on a rotational basis, providing participants with the opportunity to compete in different locations.
In addition to track and field events, QMA also offers other athletic disciplines, including relays and team-based competitions. These activities provide a fun and social atmosphere for members to bond and enjoy the camaraderie of team sports.
QMA encourages individuals of all abilities to join the club and offers training programmes led by experienced coaches. These group training sessions are an excellent way for members to improve their skills, get fit and healthy, and make new friends within the athletics community. For those seeking to progress further, QMA pathways are available, leading from local competitions to State, National, and even World Championships.
Outside regular competitions and training, QMA members also have the opportunity to participate in international events. For example, the club will be sending athletes to the New Zealand Masters Games in February 2024.
To support the activities of QMA, the club has a uniform shop, although it is only open for purchases in the lead-up to the Australian Masters Athletics National Championships each year. The club also utilises the World Masters Rankings site, which allows members to compare their performance against athletes from across Australia and around the world.
For further information and updates, QMA regularly publishes newsletters and e-newsletters to keep its members informed of club activities and achievements. The club values the privacy of its members and adheres to a strict privacy policy.
QMA is incredibly grateful for the support of its major sponsor and encourages members to show their appreciation. For inquiries or assistance regarding the club's website, the webmaster can be contacted.
