Welcome to the Queensland Ice Racing Association (QIRA)! QIRA is the peak governing body for ice racing in Queensland, dedicated to promoting the sport of ice skating in our state and across Australia. We work closely with our affiliated clubs, Roos Club and Blades Club, to manage the ice racing programme in Queensland.
Our speed skating sessions take place at Iceworld Boondall on Sunday mornings at 9am, and at Iceworld Acacia Ridge on Saturdays (except the last Saturday of the month) at 6:30pm. Whether you're a seasoned skater or a beginner, we welcome everyone to join in on the excitement of speed skating. Just remember to bring your bike helmet and gloves, wear long pants and long sleeves, and arrive 30 minutes before the session starts to get prepared.
QIRA is proud to be affiliated with Australian Ice Racing, working together with equivalent organisations in New South Wales, Victoria, and Western Australia to grow the sport of ice racing in our country. We receive funding from the Queensland Government to support and promote active participation in sport and recreation.
For those interested in joining our affiliated clubs, Blades Club and Roos Club, here are the training sessions and contact information: Blades Club trains at Boondall every Sunday from 9 am to 10 am. Mark your calendars for our upcoming national and state events! The Duke Trophy will be held on July 29th-30th, 2023 at Boondall Iceworld in Brisbane. The Australian National Championships will take place from October 6th-8th, 2023 at Docklands in Melbourne. For your convenience, we have provided our policies and rules for your reference. You can find our constitution, member protection policy, Australian short track rules, conflict of interest policy, and template register of interest on our website. If you are planning to train or compete overseas, please inform your club secretary so that necessary clearance can be obtained. Don't forget to inquire about travel insurance, as Australian Ice Racing has organised a policy specifically for skaters.
