The Queensland Horse Council Inc is a non-profit association based in Richmond Shire, Queensland. Their main goal is to support the long-term viability and health of the Queensland horse industry. They strive to be effective in providing representation across the entire Queensland horse community and are respected and influential with governments, the horse industry, and the general community.
The Queensland Horse Council is not a government organisation and relies solely on memberships, sponsorships, grants, and donations for their funding. They encourage people to show their support for Queensland's horse industry by becoming a member.
The council acts as a centre for the collection and distribution of factual and balanced information for the horse community. One of the critical tools they use for disseminating information is the Horse Owners Signal System (HOSS). HOSS is Queensland's own emergency contact database that provides email notifications about important issues such as equine-related disease alerts and other horse-related issues affecting Queenslanders. Registration for HOSS is simple and free.
The council also holds various events and initiatives to educate horse owners, veterinarians, RSPCA inspectors, local government animal control rangers, and emergency responders on safe large animal rescue techniques. Their Large Animal Rescue Roadshow aims to prevent horse injuries and educate people on what to do in an emergency. They offer education days in different areas upon request.
The Queensland Horse Council has various sponsors, including DRT Logistics, who have generously sponsored the Large Animal Rescue awareness course in Werribee Victoria. They also provide updates and news on their Google+ page, including information on proposed biosecurity regulations and the Australian Horse Industry Council's Size & Scope of the Horse Industry project.
With their dedication to supporting the horse industry and providing essential information and education, the Queensland Horse Council Inc plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being and success of Queensland's horse community.
