Purcell Dojos began as Watsonia Heights Zen Do Kai in 1992, run by Kyoshi Noel Kuhnd out of the Watsonia Heights Primary School hall. Initially teaching just Zen Do Kai Karate (founded by Soke Bob Jones in 1970) in the Wildcat Family, Watsonia Heights Zen Do Kai consistently produced students of exceptional standard, one of whom now runs the club under the banner of Purcell Dojos. In 2008, Kyoshi Noel handed over the running and management of the club to Shihan Ross Purcell, who re-named it Purcell Dojos and began to offer classes in Zen Do Kai Karate, Zen Do Kai Kidz Karate, and Muay Thai.
