The Whitsunday Brahmans is a club steeped in history and offers the rugby league player the opportunity to play in one of Australia's most idyllic and sought-after locations.
Based in the sugar town of Proserpine, the Brahmans are right on the doorstep of Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands, with the region connected to capital cities by jet aircraft from both Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine) and Hamilton Island airports.
Located approximately 1000 kilometres north of Brisbane, the Whitsundays are blessed with a perfect climate, particularly during the winter, and a lifestyle envied by people 'down south', many of whom have relocated to our part of tropical Queensland.
The Brahmans' origins date back to about 1920 and since then, league has been the No. 1 sporting code in the local community, nowadays boasting a 15,000-strong population.
The Brahmans play their home games at picturesque Les Stagg Oval, named in honour of one of Proserpine's most influential league officials and sporting administrators.
The playing field, with adjacent club rooms, is suitable for night football.
The Brahmans participate in the strong Mackay competition, a league that has spawned numerous State of Origin and Test players over the past 20 years, including the likes of Dale Shearer, Martin Bella, Wendell Sailor and Whitsunday's own Paul Bowman.
The Brahmans' joined the Mackay & District Rugby League Competition in 2008 and boast four (4) competitive sides in the Seniors with “A” Grade, Reserves, U/18's and a Womens side.
Before entering the Mackay competition, the Brahmans, as Proserpine, played in the Whitsunday league and from 1989, the Burdekin-Whitsunday competition.
There is also a strong local junior rugby league club aged from Under 6 to Under 16's, based at the Proserpine Junior Sporting Complex, producing players who usually graduate to the senior ranks, reaffirming league as the No. 1 winter sport in the Whitsundays.
