The Practical Pistol League of Australia (PPLA) is a sports club located in Melbourne, Victoria. As the largest IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) club in the state, PPLA boasts excellent facilities that accommodate all three disciplines of IPSC shooting. The club is affiliated with both the Sporting Shooters' Association of Australia (SSAA) and IPSC.
Situated at the SSAA Eagle Park range complex in Little River, PPLA has access to 18 pistol ranges that can also be used for shotgun and rifle competitions. With these versatile resources, PPLA has the unique advantage of being able to organise competitions for multiple disciplines, setting it apart from other clubs. The club premises feature a fully self-contained clubhouse equipped with a kitchen, toilets, showers, and a TV. Additionally, the clubhouse is heated in winter and cooled in summer to ensure comfort all year round.
Over the years, PPLA has had the privilege of hosting numerous National and International events, including the IPSC National Championships, IPSC Australasian Championships, Steel Challenge Nationals, and the World Police and Fire Games. These events have solidified PPLA's reputation as a leading club in the shooting community.
The club solely focuses on IPSC, the fastest and most action-oriented pistol sport in the world. IPSC competitors exclusively utilise full power handguns with a minimum calibre of 9 mm. Originating in the United States in the early 1950s, IPSC has gained popularity in over 125 countries worldwide. For additional information on IPSC, visit the official IPSC Australia website.
PPLA currently boasts a membership of over 235 individuals and conducts regular competitions on the third Sunday of each month. Additionally, specialised training days for new members occur on the first Sunday of each month, while every Sunday serves as a training day for both new and experienced members. The club's competition results can be found on their Practiscore page. PPLA members have established themselves as top shooters in the country, with several individuals securing major victories at State and National Championships.
Moreover, PPLA is proud to count leading National and International Range Officials among its ranks, ensuring the smooth functioning of matches.
Prospective members interested in joining Australia's top Club can reach out to the club's President for further information. PPLA's postal address for club-related correspondence is PO Box 7130, Cranbourne North, Victoria 3977.
Please note that the club's premises are not a commercial shooting range, and it is requested that those booking into the Intro Days genuinely intend to pursue pistol sports. Intro Day requests should only be made when an Intro Day is listed as open, and emailing a request during closed periods is discouraged. Each Intro Day session accommodates a limited number of participants, with up to 8 people granted entry to ensure the best instruction possible. Confirmations for bookings may take up to 24 hours.
It is important to follow the simple booking instructions and refrain from attempting to book before the specified opening times. The club reserves the right to refuse early bookings due to concerns about the applicant's adherence to firearm safety instructions.
