The Poodle Club of New South Wales Inc (Australia), affiliated with Dogs NSW, is a sports club based in Sydney. Established in 1955, the club is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and showcasing the purebred Poodle. Their activities include shows, trials, obedience trials, and fun days for Poodle owners and enthusiasts.
The club represents all three varieties of the Poodle breed: Standard Poodles, Miniature Poodles, and Toy Poodles. These varieties are distinguished by size, with Standard Poodles measuring 38 cm (15 inches) and above at the shoulder, Miniature Poodles measuring under 38 cm (15 inches) but not under 28 cm (11 inches), and Toy Poodles measuring under 28 cm (11 inches).
The Poodle Club of NSW is an active member of the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) and a founding member of the National Poodle Council, operating under the auspices of the ANKC. They aim to promote Poodles, support Poodle owners and breeders, improve the breed's health, provide information to people interested in buying Poodles, and organise Poodle-related activities.
The club hosts a range of events throughout the year. These include Championship Shows, an obedience and rally-o trial, and Fun & Information Days. The Championship Shows attract Poodle enthusiasts from all over the country, with a highlight being the awarding of Best in Show. The obedience and rally-o trials allow Poodle owners to showcase their dogs' training and obedience skills.
Fun & Information Days provide an opportunity for Poodle owners to come together, socialise, and learn more about the breed.
The Poodle Club of NSW is led by President Kay Wright and supported by a committee. They meet on the third Monday of each month, with changes to the December meeting schedule due to Christmas.
For more information about the club and its activities, interested individuals can visit their website or contact the Secretary, Diana Thompson, via phone or email. The club also organises fundraising events, such as sausage sizzles and raffles, to support their activities and initiatives.
