Play Badminton prides itself on its state-of-the-art facilities, which include six international standard courts. The club provides court hire services at Maribyrnong College's sports academy building, one of Melbourne's leading badminton facilities. These purpose-built courts offer TV standard lighting, giving players an authentic and thrilling badminton experience.
The club caters to players of all ages and levels. Whether you're seeking a casual court hire, participating in social competitions, joining the junior training squads, or seeking private coaching, Play Badminton has something for everyone. The coaching and development programmes for junior players are divided into two streams: the Beginner/Intermediate stream and the Elite stream. These sessions run weekly throughout the term, with breaks during school holidays.
To join any session, players can show up for a no-obligation free trial.
The beginner and intermediate sessions, led by Head Coach Glenn Warfe, focus on developing fundamental skills in a fun and relaxed environment. These sessions are suitable for players of varying experience levels, from beginners to those who compete in local and state tournaments. The training in these squads emphasises technical skill development, footwork, gameplay, and, most importantly, having fun. The Beginner/Intermediate squads have sessions on Fridays from 5:30 pm to 7 pm and Sundays from 10 am to 12 pm.
Term fees vary depending on the selected training days.
The Elite squads, headed by Oscar Jap, are designed for players who are determined to take their game to the next level. This programme offers a comprehensive training plan to enhance overall badminton skills and performance. It includes advanced technical skills, badminton-specific strength and conditioning training, game sense, tactical development, coaching at tournaments, and goal setting. Players in the Elite squads must also have a Play Badminton Membership, which includes insurance, entry to state and national sanctioned tournaments, and a club t-shirt.
In conclusion, Play Badminton is a sports club in Melbourne that provides an excellent badminton experience for players of all ages and skill levels. With its top-notch facilities, dedicated coaches, and comprehensive training programmes, Play Badminton is the ultimate destination for all badminton enthusiasts.
