Picton Rangers Football Club - MiniRoos, also known as PRFC, is a sports club located in the Wollondilly Shire Council area. With a rich history dating back to 1971, the club has been actively involved in the football community for over 50 years.
The club was formed on September 13th, 1971, and initially played in the Southern Districts association, wearing the traditional colours of black and white. In its first year, the club fielded four junior teams, as well as First and Reserve grades. Over the years, the focus shifted to senior teams, but in 1976, there was a revival with the club moving to the Highlands Association and two new players injecting fresh enthusiasm.
Ray Gardiner and Ziggy Spilarewicz, both ex-Scottish-Sydney players, helped dominate the Highlands competition for the next six years. During this time, the club built its clubhouse and changed its colours to maroon, white, and gold. In 1981, the club's All Age teams achieved an unprecedented feat by winning all three divisions, grand finals, and cups in the Highlands Association.
In 1982, Picton Rangers made their first appearance in the Illawarra Soccer Association, but due to the increased competition, they were unable to sustain themselves and withdrew from the league. However, the following years saw the club regroup and start a new revival in the newly formed Macarthur Association. The club enjoyed success in this competition, reaching both grand finals, although they narrowly lost on penalties.
In recent years, Picton Rangers has made a significant effort to welcome younger players with the establishment of the MiniRoos programme. Formerly known as SSG, the club rebranded in 2015 and has since provided a nurturing environment for young footballers. This initiative was brought about by Kim Johnson.
Picton Rangers Football Club - MiniRoos is a proud member of Football South Coast and Macarthur Football Associations. The club has a strong focus on player development, community involvement, and promoting a positive sporting culture. With a legacy of leadingships, trophies, and proud moments, Picton Rangers continues to be a reputable and respected name in Australian football.
