Perth Velocity Inline Hockey Club, established in 1998, is the only remaining inline hockey club in the Perth metropolitan area. Their main goal is to be an inclusive club that promotes and develops inline hockey in Western Australia, making it accessible to players of all skill levels and providing a fun environment to improve their skills. The club offers various opportunities for members to participate, including an in-house league, drop-in scrimmage sessions, and regular tournaments throughout the year.
The house league is where most of Perth Velocity's games take place. They run three seasons per year, including two shorter recreational seasons in autumn and spring, as well as a championship season during the cooler months. The house league prioritises developing positive inline hockey experiences for all members.
The recreational seasons, also known as “rec” seasons, are designed for players of all levels, from beginners to experienced players. These seasons offer a fun and low-stakes environment to give inline hockey a try. Players with competent inline skating or street roller hockey experience can join these seasons to challenge themselves and socialise with a wide range of club members. Rec seasons usually run for 8–10 weeks, and teams are drafted for a single season.
The championship season is the highlight of the year, taking place during the cooler months. This is where core teams compete over a longer season, typically lasting around 12 weeks, with an additional two weeks for playoffs. The coveted Perth Velocity Cup trophy is awarded to the winning team. Although the championship season requires some ice or inline hockey experience, the focus remains on having fun and creating a positive experience for all participants.
For more advanced and skilled players, the club offers the premier league. After a successful trial season in 2021, the premier league took a temporary hiatus in 2022. However, Perth Velocity aims to bring back the leading league in 2023, and they are actively seeking volunteers to help organise and run the league.
To stay updated with the club's activities, Perth Velocity encourages members to follow them on social media and visit their website. They provide an events calendar that includes drop-in scrimmage sessions, training sessions, and upcoming house league seasons, allowing members to plan their participation in advance.
In summary, Perth Velocity Inline Hockey Club is a vibrant sports club that promotes and supports the growth of inline hockey in Western Australia. With their inclusive approach, they provide opportunities for players of all skill levels to enjoy the sport, offering house leagues, recreational seasons, and championships. By joining Perth Velocity, members can be a part of a welcoming community of inline hockey enthusiasts and have the chance to develop their skills while having a great time.
