Floorball, a fast-paced indoor sport, is played on a rink with dimensions ranging from 18–22 metres wide to 36–44 metres long. The players, referred to as “floorballers,” don a typical sports attire consisting of shorts, shirts, socks, and indoor sport shoes. Additionally, they have the option to wear protective gear such as shin guards, eye protectors, and padding for vital areas.
The club's goalkeepers wear limited protection including padded pants, a padded chest protector, and a helmet, adhering to the sport's regulations. While they can employ additional protective equipment such as knee pads, jocks, and gloves, bulky padding is not allowed.
Floorball matches involve the objective of scoring goals by successfully manoeuvring a plastic whiffle ball into a net with the aid of a stick. The ball weighs 23 grammes, has a diameter of 72 mm, and is designed with aerodynamic technology to reduce air resistance. It has 26 holes in it, each 11 mm in diameter. The game is played with six players on each team, including a goalkeeper, and regulations allow for player substitutions.
The rules of floorball prohibit checking, although controlled shoulder-to-shoulder contact is permitted. The game is played over three periods of 20 minutes each, with intermissions of 3–10 minutes allowing for team changes. Penalties, goals, time-outs, and situations where the ball is not considered in play result in the clock stopping. Each team is given a 30-second timeout, adding strategic elements to matches.
Two referees oversee the game, ensuring fair play and enforcing the rules.
Perth Pirates Floorball Club is proud to be a part of the vibrant floorball community, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love for the game.
