Payneham is one of the oldest swimming clubs in South Australia , originally founded in 1942 as Richardson's Industries Patriotic Club. The Club originally participated in many forms of aquatic sport including surf lifesaving but gradually restricted its activities to competitive swimming.
When Chrysler purchased Richardson's Industries, the club became the Chrysler Swimming Club. When the Adelaide City Baths were closed to make way for the Festival Centre, the Club moved to Payneham and adopted the name Payneham Chrylser Swimming Club. During the 1970s and 1980s Chrysler/Payneham was one of the most successful swimming clubs in Australia.
This period produced a number of Olympians including Glenn Beringen and Martin Roberts.
When Mitsubishi bought Chrysler , the support for the club was dropped and eventually the Club became the Payneham Swimming Club as it is today.
Our two fantastic coaches can correct stroke and help improve fitness and times.
Swimmers will be assessed by the coach and should be able to swim 100 freestyle, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke and Butterfly kick with good technique.
