Orienteering is a great family sport, catering for young children right through to grandparents, for the super fast and not so fast, for the competitive and not so competitive.
Those new to the sport are most welcome to participate in any of the events listed on the events calendar 2016 and we provide information on the basic map reading and navigational skills at all events.
Orienteering in Queensland can be done on foot (Foot Orienteering) or on Mountain Bike (Mountain Bike Orienteering)
For more information, look at About Orienteering, particularly Getting Started.
Orienteering Queensland also offers:

COVID SAFE EVENTS
With the reintroduction of tougher Covid restrictions in Queensland, we would like to assure orienteers that OQ falls under the umbrella of the Outdoor Sports Industry Covid Safe Plan. We also have our own OQ Covid Safe Plan for the organization of orienteering events. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with these documents.
At present all orienteering events are still continuing. Any changes to this will be advertised on the OQ Facebook page, on the Eventor links to upcoming events, on the OQ website and in the OQ Weekly Bulletin.
Orienteering is the ideal sport for maintaining safe distancing - we stagger the starts, participants are well spread during the event, and you're on the move outdoors. At all events we're still observing covid protocols: via contactless entry, cashless payments, online results only etc.
Please remember to socially distance at events, space your start/arrival times and make use of the sanitiser that is made available.
It goes without saying that if you are feeling unwell, are displaying any of the symptoms of Covid-19 or have had contact with someone who has the virus, please do not attend any orienteering events.
