The Onkaparinga Rugby Union Football Club is a prominent sports club located in Adelaide, South Australia. As one of the 13 Rugby clubs in the state, Onkaparinga has established itself as a successful breeding ground for rugby players in the southern suburbs of Adelaide.
The club has a strong junior programme that has produced numerous talented players, with many of them going on to higher levels of the game both interstate and overseas. Since its establishment in 1968, Onkaparinga has been based at the Wilfred Taylor Reserve, where it currently occupies two rugby pitches.
The club rooms, built on council property, underwent a significant building extension in 2009, resulting in a larger social function area, two additional change rooms, a commercial kitchen/canteen, gym, and committee room. The cost of these improvements amounted to approximately $700,000. Moreover, the ground lights were recently upgraded at a cost of $140,000, ensuring top-notch facilities for the players and members.
Onkaparinga is well-represented during the rugby season, with three or four men's sides, a women's side, and six junior sides from under 7s to under 18s. The club has enjoyed substantial success over the years, consistently making it to the finals. The junior committee's hard work has earned the club the Eastwood Trophy on multiple occasions, recognising it as the best junior club in the South Australian Rugby Union.
During the summer months, Onkaparinga organises a Touch competition for mixed and open divisions. This allows players of all ages to engage in a social game without physical contact, promoting fitness and competitiveness. The club takes pride in its diverse membership, with players and members from various countries who share a love for “the game they play in heaven.
