The Northern Sydney Judo Club (NSJC) is a dynamic and thrilling Judo club located in St Ives, NSW. NSJC caters to boys, girls, and adults in the northern Sydney area who are interested in learning Judo in a safe and enjoyable environment. Judo is a globally recognised sport with international competitions held worldwide, and it is the only martial art currently featured in the Olympics. NSJC is proud to be affiliated with renowned organisations such as the International Judo Federation, Judo Australia, and the Kodokan Judo Institute.
At NSJC, students learn various Judo techniques including throws and mat work through engaging activities such as games, drills, randori (free practise) sessions, and competitions. These techniques are rooted in the efficient utilisation of both mind and body, allowing individuals to easily throw opponents even if they may be larger. New students commence their Judo journey with a white belt and begin by learning essential skills such as falling safely. They then progress to mastering basic throws and hold downs, which enable them to advance to the next colour belt.
In the “friendly” club environment of NSJC, students gain insights into the world of Judo competitions. As their skills improve and confidence grows, they have the opportunity to participate in competitions held at various locations, including PCYCs and neighbouring clubs. With dedication and perseverance, students may even aspire to achieve the highly coveted Black Belt and represent Australia in both national and international competitions, including the Olympics.
NSJC conducts its Judo classes at the Barra Brui Scout Hall in St Ives. This venue is conveniently situated opposite St Ives High School, off Hunter Ave and past the 2nd St Ives Scout Hall. The club offers separate training sessions for kids aged 7 to 14 years old on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 pm. Additionally, NSJC is actively seeking to introduce an adults class (15 years old and above) and a no-impact/low-impact Judo-based fitness class.
Interested individuals are encouraged to reach out to NSJC via email for more information.
