
"Vic Bridger and his great mate Wally Horsfall who were neighbours at Slade Point decided in 1971 to approach Mackay Cricket about entering anU11 side into the 1972 junior competition as Slade Point Cricket Club known as “The Slade Point Slashers”. Their reason was to capture the young talent in Slade Point who were playing cricket in parks, back yards, and streets. In their first season they claimed the topship. The interest from the Slade Point area began to grow, and over the next few years they entered other junior sides.
