Athletics Club, also known as NSAC, is a family-oriented sports club located in Hobart, Tasmania. With over 50 years of experience, the club has been dedicated to supporting athletes of all abilities in their athletic pursuits. As they approach their 60th year in 2022, NSAC continues to provide a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and achieve their goals.
NSAC offers two main disciplines for athletes to participate in: Cross Country and Track and Field. The winter cross country competition takes place on Saturday mornings from April to September at various venues around Hobart. This competition attracts participants of all ages and abilities, creating a relaxed and inclusive environment where runners of different levels can compete alongside each other. National and state-standard runners can run alongside primary school-age athletes and veterans.
During the summer, NSAC holds track and field competitions at the Domain Athletic Centre on Saturdays from October to March. The competition usually starts at 1 pm, with some 9 am starts as well. Athletes in track and field compete against individuals of similar skill levels, which can vary from 12-year-olds to 60-year-olds. It is not uncommon for parents and their children to participate in races together, demonstrating the club's commitment to promoting a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
In addition to regular competitions, NSAC also organises special events to celebrate milestones and achievements. The club recently held its 60th-anniversary dinner, commemorating the significant contribution it has made to the athletics community over the years. They also hosted the Neil Davis Memorial 400 Metre Handicap in 2022, where Cressa clinched a memorable victory.
Joining the Northern Suburbs Athletic Club offers athletes the opportunity to be part of a family-oriented community that values and recognises individuals of all abilities. The club provides access to accredited coaches who can tailor training programmes to suit individual needs. Additionally, travel subsidies are available for athletes selected to represent the state.
To stay updated with club news and events, members receive a comprehensive weekly newsletter, and the club has an active Facebook page where they can connect with other athletes and supporters. The executive committee, consisting of President David O'Brien, Vice President Richard Welsh, Secretary Vanessa Kearney, Registrar Sarah Holmstrom, Treasurer Tony Sansom, and several committee members, are readily available to assist and support club members.
For individuals looking to embark on their athletic journey or continue their athletic pursuits, NSAC offers a welcoming and supportive environment.
