As a community-based club, North Turramurra Football Club has a rich history that dates back to the foundation of the Northern Suburbs Football Association in 1957. We were one of the six local district clubs that participated in the inaugural Under 12 competition at Bannockburn Oval. Originally known as the North Turramurra Junior Soccer Club, we expanded to include netball players and became the North Turramurra Junior Sports Club in 1970.
Our club has undergone changes over the years, including a change in our playing strip. While we now proudly wear the dominant vertical black and white striped playing strip, our original club strip was a hand-made black shirt with a white V, white shorts, and hooped socks.
One of the most significant events in our club's calendar is the Gala day, which we have been celebrating since 1958. It is a day when the community comes together to mark the end of the football season. The day includes not only matches between teams but also novelty games such as mothers/sisters vs boys, fathers vs sons, and penalty-taking competitions. It is an opportunity for players and families to enjoy the camaraderie and celebrate the achievements of the season.
In recent years, North Turramurra Football Club has experienced significant growth and success. Thanks to the efforts of former President Tom Ryan, we revived junior football in 2013 with a single team in the Under 6 age group. Within eight years, we have expanded to field 25 junior teams and 10 senior teams, making us one of the fastest-growing clubs in the association.
We are proud to call Samuel King Oval our home ground. Named after Irishman Samuel King, who arrived in Sydney in 1853, the oval is located in an area known as “Irish Town” due to Samuel's establishment of orchards along Bobbin Head Road. Samuel King was a prominent church and community supporter, and his contributions to the local area are honoured through the naming of our home ground.
North Turramurra Football Club is a place where players can talk with their feet and play with their hearts. We strive to promote physical activity, teamwork, fairness, and respect within our local community. We aim to build a love for the game, self-confidence, and the enjoyment of team sports with friends. Join us today and become part of our proud and vibrant club.
