Situated just 12 km west of the town of Narrogin, the club is easily accessible from Perth, Bunbury, and Albany via major highways and well-maintained roads. The rolling farmland surrounding the club provides ideal conditions for soaring, with reliable thermals and a safe environment for pilots to explore.
Gliding, also known as soaring, is a thrilling recreational activity and competitive air sport that relies on using natural air currents to stay airborne. The sport originated in the 1920s, with pilots initially focusing on increasing flight durations and then venturing into cross-country flights. Today, advancements in aerodynamics and weather forecasting techniques have enabled glider pilots to cover greater distances at higher speeds.
At Narrogin Gliding Club, aspiring glider pilots can embark on an unforgettable learning journey. The club offers formalised training courses at least twice a year, providing comprehensive instruction from experienced and dedicated instructors. In addition to formal courses, flight instruction is available on regular operating days, ensuring pilots have ample opportunities to enhance their skills.
The club boasts an impressive fleet of gliders, including two-seat DG 505s for cross-country and competition flights, SZD 50-3s (also known as Puchacz) as training gliders, the versatile Astir CS77, and the high-performance single-seater Discus CS. In addition to the gliders, the club also has two Piper Pawnee PA 25/235 tow planes to assist in launching flights.
