Establish new settlements across the globe. In Sydney, one of the most vibrant and active sports clubs is Muggaccinos.
Muggaccinos was founded 25 years ago by a group of nurses and a doctor from Royal North Shore Hospital. The primary purpose of the club was to provide a cure for the Sunday morning hangovers. Over the years, it has evolved into a passionate community of cyclists who share a love for exploring the outskirts of Sydney, enjoy quality coffee, and embrace the camaraderie of a diverse group of individuals.
The club offers a variety of cycling routes to cater to different preferences and abilities. Every Sunday, members have the opportunity to embark on a hilly road ride, typically spanning between 100 km and 120 km. Hills are seen as friends by Muggs riders, as they provide an opportunity to breathe in fresh air, witness breathtaking scenery, and catch glimpses of wildlife along the way. For those who prefer a shorter, less hilly ride, an alternative starting point is available, allowing for rides of 55 km to 75 km.
In addition to regular Sunday rides, Muggaccinos is known for its adventurous spirit. Over the past few years, club members have participated in challenging cycling tours in the French and Italian Alps. The riders have conquered daunting climbs, including the Stelvio Passo from Prad and the joint Col climbs up Le Telegraph and Galibier. Other iconic climbs such as Alpe d'Heuz and Mont Ventoux are considered “Easy Peasy” by Muggs riders.
The club also organises weekend getaways, which include a mix of testing day rides and lively social gatherings.
Muggaccinos is not limited to cycling. The club embraces a holistic approach to fitness and mental toughness. Members engage in various activities such as swimming the annual 2. 7 km Palm Beach to Whale Beach swim, hiking the challenging Six Foot Track from Katoomba to Jenolan Caves, and paddling in the 111 km Hawkesbury Canoe Classic.
These accomplishments are made more meaningful and achievable through the support of the club's tight-knit community.
Muggaccinos believes that regular recreational exercise, especially in a social setting, is crucial for overall well-being. Whether it's conquering tough physical challenges or simply enjoying the great outdoors, the club provides a platform for individuals to grow, bond, and achieve their goals. The inclusive nature of Muggaccinos ensures that everyone, regardless of skill level, feels welcome and supported.
To become a part of this warm and fuzzy community, there are no fees or charges. Muggaccinos prides itself on its self-deprecating reprobates, gung-ho enthusiasts, and misfits who don't take themselves too seriously. Every Sunday, all riders are considered equal, as there is no hierarchy on a bicycle.
For those seeking an active and friendly sports club that emphasises adventure, fitness, and a sense of belonging, Muggaccinos is the place to be. Join the club, explore the beautiful outskirts of Sydney, enjoy exquisite coffee, and create lasting memories with an incredible group of individuals.
