The Mount Barker-Hahndorf Golf Club has a rich history with origins dating back to 1879, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in South Australia. Originally, golf was played on a local property known as the Laurels, and the club used this venue for forty-two years. In 1907, the club joined forces with the Hahndorf Golf Club until 1912.
As Mount Barker grew, the club relocated its golf course with the permission of the Warden family, who allowed the club to use their land for 45 years. In 1966, the club decided to establish a facility and purchased 288 acres of land near Wistow. The course and clubrooms were established through volunteer labour, and the club became an incorporated association. However, due to land pressures and a deficient water supply, the club decided to subdivide and sell the land.
In 1977, the club purchased and developed the present property with the objective of acquiring land closer to Mount Barker with adequate water supply. The course was constructed first, followed by the completion and opening of the clubrooms in 1980. Since then, the club has put in tremendous effort and revenue to continually upgrade the course and facilities to meet the expectations of its members.
With its rich history, stunning golf course, and excellent facilities, Mt Barker-Hahndorf Golf Club is a must-visit sports club in the District Council of Mount Barker. Whether you are a golf enthusiast, looking for a great dining experience, or planning a special event, the club offers a warm and welcoming environment for all.
