The Mount Gambier Golf Club, established in 1909, is a sports club located on Attamurra Road in the City of Mount Gambier, South Australia. The club boasts a beautiful 18-hole course that measures a par 72 and stretches over 6000 metres from the men's blue tees, with a slope rating of 129. For ladies, there is a par 73 course measuring 5200 metres, with a slope rating of 125. In line with Golf Australia's recommendation, the club has also introduced an 18-hole orange course with a 62 par, spanning 3000 metres, designed to encourage players of all abilities.
The course offers elevated tees on many holes, providing players with stunning views of multiple parts of the course. One standout feature is the signature par 3 8th hole, which offers a breathtaking southern view back to the Mount Gambier Centenary Tower.
The fairways, made of Santa Ana couch grass, are generous, but accuracy and thoughtful shot placement are rewarded. The club takes great pride in its large greens, which are renowned as the jewel in the crown. These greens are challenging but true, eliciting many complimentary comments from players.
In recent times, the club's course committee, under the guidance of Crafter and Mogford Golf Strategies, has implemented various changes as part of a detailed course enhancement programme. This programme includes widening fairways and removing inappropriate tree plantings to improve turf development and playability.
