Modus Movement Studio is a sports club in Perth that aims to grow a community centred around movement and learning. It is a place for anyone who loves to move their body, whether they are trying to learn a new skill, gain strength or mobility, develop a personal practise, or simply have longevity and a healthy relationship with their body.
Unlike traditional fitness and exercise, Modus approaches movement as craftsmen and perpetual students. They teach principles rather than skills, helping students become aware of their patterns and develop a wide range of movement abilities. The goal is to become generalist movers rather than specialists, constantly working on areas they are not good at.
Modus offers a schedule of daily classes and open gym sessions to further the development of movement possibilities. These classes draw on principles distilled from various disciplines such as martial arts, dance, strength and conditioning, and parkour. They aim to cultivate a beginner's mind and encourage students to work on what they are not good at, fostering a perpetual learning mode.
Located on Noongar country, Modus Movement Studio acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land and pays respect to Noongar elders past, present, and emerging.
To join Modus Movement Studio, non-residents of Western Australia must contact them and apply before arrival. They also have an Instagram account for updates and content.
The studio is located at 5 Hayden Court, Myaree, WA, 6154, Australia. For inquiries, you can contact them at (08) 9330 1802 or email info@modusmovement. Com. au.
Modus Movement Studio offers group classes and education in Perth. The timetable includes classes that are 90 minutes in duration, allowing time to complete individual strength programmes and work on projects. Open practise sessions are available for students who have purchased an ongoing tuition option and serve as a time to further practise and work on projects learned in class. Movement prep classes, lasting for 1 hour, are also available for those looking to develop baseline strength and mobility or in need of prehab/rehab before joining regular classes.
New students are encouraged to arrive 10–15 minutes before their first session to get started with their pass. During class, students will be taught at their level, regardless of their experience with movement. One of the lead teachers will provide appropriate guidance based on individual abilities and background.
Modus Movement Studio recommends bringing a notebook to classes for note-taking purposes.
