Trips Trips are longer outings that usually involve overnight stays. This can include backpacking trips where members carry their own camping and personal gear, or base camping trips where members set up camp in a central location and undertake day walks from there. Trips are a great way to explore different areas and enjoy a multiday walking experience. Back Packing Back packing trips are a popular option for members who enjoy a more challenging and immersive walking experience.
These trips involve carrying all necessary equipment and supplies for multiple days of walking and camping. Members are responsible for their own food, shelter, and equipment. Other Outdoor Activities In addition to bushwalking, the Melbourne Women's Walking Club offers a variety of other outdoor activities for members to enjoy. This can include urban walks in and around Melbourne, cycling outings, canoeing trips, and conservation work to help preserve and protect our natural environment.
Social Gatherings The club recognises the importance of social connexions and fosters a sense of community among its members. Regular social gatherings are organised throughout the year, providing opportunities for members to come together, share stories and experiences, and build lasting friendships. Training Programme The club is committed to promoting safe and responsible walking practises. A training programme is available to members who wish to develop their bushwalking skills and knowledge.
This programme covers a range of topics including navigation, first aid, campcraft, and bush survival skills. Transport and Membership To participate in club activities, members have the option of carpooling with other members, using public transport, or arranging for coach transport if needed. Most day walks are within two hours' drive of Melbourne. To join the Melbourne Women's Walking Club, prospective members are required to participate in two full day walks within three months.
This allows prospective members to experience the club's activities and determine if it aligns with their interests and abilities. All women walkers, both experienced and new to walking, are welcome to join the club. Covid-19 Precautions Please note that all club activities are run in accordance with any current Victorian Covid restrictions. The safety and well-being of our members is our top priority, and we will continue to adapt our activities to ensure compliance with government regulations.
