Melbourne University Weightlifting & Powerlifting Club (MUWPC) is the leading sports club in Melbourne, Australia, dedicated to the development and promotion of weightlifting and powerlifting. Established over 30 years ago, MUWPC has a proud history of producing world-class athletes and champions in both disciplines.
At MUWPC, all individuals with the discipline and desire to maximise their abilities are welcome to train. Whether you are a seasoned lifter or a beginner, MUWPC offers training programmes for everyone. To join the elite squad, individuals must demonstrate exceptional performance and ambition and train on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30pm to 8:30pm under the guidance of Robert Wilks, Powerlifting Australia's National Coach. Alternatively, the student squad trains on Mondays and Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm.
MUWPC boasts state-of-the-art training facilities equipped with the finest strength equipment, including Eleiko and Samtek world-class powerlifting equipment. This ensures that athletes have access to top-quality equipment that enhances their performance and allows them to maximise their potential.
With MUWPC, athletes have the opportunity to compete in various Powerlifting Australia and World Powerlifting competitions. These include local Powerlifting Australia events, fitness shows in Sydney and Melbourne, Australian Championships for different age groups, Oceania Championships, and even World Championships for both junior and masters categories. These events are drug-tested by Sport Integrity Australia and Powerlifting Australia, ensuring fair competition and maintaining the integrity of the sport.
MUWPC has an impressive track record of producing champions across all levels. The club has produced over 100 Australian Open Champions, as well as numerous Junior and Masters Champions. MUWPC has also clinched multiple team awards at Australian Championships over the years. The club's athletes, including Katrina Robertson, Nghiep Luu, Yani Zhao, and Tony Reinmuth, have gone on to become World Champions and even set World Records.
