MADE, also known as Mature Artists Dance Experience, is a pioneering arts organisation based in Hobart. With a focus on creating spectacular work for audiences, MADE builds pathways between mature non-professional dancers and professional artists, resulting in high-quality dance and theatre productions for global audiences. Their innovative approach takes place in non-traditional performance spaces, offering a fresh perspective on dance and performance.
Since its establishment in 2005, MADE has achieved eighteen years of success, including national and international touring. As a celebration of movement, art form, and wisdom, their vision is to lead the dance world with high-quality original performances that connect people through participation. By ambitiously driving a global agenda, MADE aims to redefine the representation of the mature body on stage.
MADE offers amazing, inclusive, and creative dance opportunities for adults of all ages. No previous experience is necessary, as their classes are designed for anyone with a willingness to have fun and engage in physical activity. Contemporary, ballet, and improvisation classes are led by a fabulous and dedicated team of local, national, and internationally recognised dance teachers.
In addition to their classes, MADE creates work that tells stories of lives lived, dreams sought, experiences shared, and challenges overcome. Through collaborations with courageous ensembles and world-renowned choreographers, such as Kelly Drummond Cawthon, Angela Strk, and Liesel Zink, they challenge perceptions of dance and the dancer. These works aim to expand our notions of how older Australians can live and move, showcasing the richness of ageing, experience in life, and the history they have lived.
MADE performances are a celebration of dancers aged 50 and above. The performance ensembles consist of key members from their classes, honing their skills and supporting their peers within the MADE family. Their performances have been showcased in various venues and festivals across Australia, including Mona Foma, Ten Days on the Island, Canberra, Brisbane, King Island, and Saitama in Japan.
