Manning River Canoe Club is a sports club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club was formed in 1976 with the aim of providing a platform for individuals interested in canoeing, specifically targeting school students in the Manning Valley. Over time, the interests of the club's members have diversified to include various outdoor activities, with a particular focus on bushwalking.
Canoeing activities offered by the club range from placid flat water day trips in calm backwaters, aimed at exploring the diverse vegetation, wildlife, and landscapes, to more challenging white water trips. Trips can be as short as a few hours in the afternoon or can extend to full-day excursions or even week-long journeys through rugged wilderness areas. All canoeing trips are graded from beginner level up to advanced and experienced, catering to individuals who are proficient in reading maps, using a compass, or paddling a kayak in white water. The club boasts members who are highly experienced in such activities and are more than willing to share their knowledge and skills with others.
Similarly, bushwalking activities organised by the club are not limited to traversing through uncharted wilderness reserved for the most physically fit and experienced individuals. Walks include historical tours of Cundletown, climbing hills in the district to enjoy breathtaking views, swimming down mountain streams on hot summer days, exploring old forestry trails amidst rainforests, visiting isolated beaches to view spring wildflowers, and embarking on five-day treks through the Snowy Mountains high plains. Members of all ages can participate in these walks, ranging from 10-year-olds to individuals as old as 78. The club prides itself on being inclusive and ensuring the safety of its members by providing instruction for beginners and opportunities to practise newly acquired skills under supervision.
In addition to canoeing and bushwalking, the club occasionally organises mountain bike rides and social events to promote a sense of camaraderie among members. The club also maintains an old forestry hut and a clearing on the banks of a mountain, where members can enjoy a relaxing weekend, complete with a spit roast.
The primary objective of the Manning River Canoe Club is to foster a love for the outdoors, promote a sense of fun and adventure, and provide a platform for individuals to share their experiences through captivating pictures. The club welcomes individuals of all ages and skill levels, encouraging them to participate in a range of outdoor activities.
