Llanherne Golf Club

Llanherne Golf Club is a unique links style Nine Hole Golf Course located between the Hobart Airport and Seven Mile Beach in Tasmania. Established on land within the Hobart property airport boundary, the club was founded by a group of airport employees and interested members from the local community under a lease agreement with the Commonwealth Government. In the late 1980s, the club faced challenges to its long-term survival when the Commonwealth Government indicated plans to expand the airport facilities and moved the leasing arrangement from medium to short term.

Negotiations with the Department of Parks and Wildlife resulted in the purchase of the present site from the State Government, which was conditionally used for sport and recreation purposes. The new course and clubhouse were financed and built with a combination of loans, member contribution, and volunteer labour. The present site was occupied in 1994, featuring nine greens, eighteen tees, gently undulating fairways, two lakes, and numerous bunkers that add to the challenge.

The golf course, designed by Peter Toogood, offers a par of 72 and a length of 5978 metres. It has a unique sand belt developed with 18 tees and nine large greens. Slope ratings are 124 for Members White, 120 for Yellow (Social), and 118 for Ladies Red.
