Lismore Target Rifle Club, located in the Lismore City Council area, is a sports club dedicated to the sport of target rifle shooting. The club offers a range of shooting disciplines, including small bore shooting, bench rest shooting, prone shooting, and silhouette target shooting. They provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for shooters of all ages and skill levels.
The club operates on Wednesdays and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. On Wednesdays, they shoot both bench rest and prone at 50-metre paper targets, under the lights in the evening. The Saturday sessions are a mix of target bench rest practise and silhouette target shooting practise, starting at 1:00 PM. It is important to note that the club does not open on long weekends involving NSW Public Holidays.
The range is open to both fully licenced shooters and unlicensed trainee shooters. All attendees are required to sign the NSW Firearms attendance record upon arrival. Additionally, Covid-19 vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals are now allowed to attend the range, provided they do not have flu-like symptoms or feel unwell.
Membership fees are due at the beginning of each year, and members must renew their memberships before shooting. The club offers various membership types including senior, junior, pensioner, family, and social members, each with varying fees. There is also a range fee whenever the range is used, and ongoing costs include the purchase of . 22 standard ammunition.
The club operates as a non-profit organisation, with the running costs met through range fees and a portion of the membership fees. The majority of the membership fees go towards supporting the club's affiliated bodies, the NSW Small Bore Rifle and Air Rifle Association, and Target Rifle Australia. These organisations coordinate the sport throughout Australia and provide insurance coverage for local clubs.
Lismore Target Rifle Club expects its members to prioritise safety, adhere to range rules, and maintain a respectful environment for all participants. They encourage active participation in club activities and offer firearms training and testing on behalf of the NSW Firearms Registry. Children over the age of 12 can participate but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
To join the club, interested individuals can visit the rifle range during Wednesday nights (6:45 PM) or one of the nominated Saturdays at 1 PM and speak with the range officer. Visitors are welcome, and the only requirement is to sign the visitors book. The club promotes the sport of target rifle shooting as a recreational activity, competitive sport, and a means of developing shooting skills.
