The Launceston Tornadoes Basketball Club Inc, a Women’s Basketball Club, was formed in 1993 and first played in the SEABL competition in 1994. It was formed to provide an opportunity for local female basketball players the opportunity to play in an elite league and to achieve their full potential.
The club is managed by a small group of diversely skilled people and much of the on court success of the team can be attributed to the energetic contribution of the Club’s Board of Management. This dedication is shown by the club being successful in achieving SEABL’s Administrator of the Year in 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2002.
The club also has the distinction of being the only winner of the ABA’s Presidents Award which it received in 1995 for Excellence in Overall Promotion and Media Coverage.
The Board has the support of a strong army of volunteers who, collectively, are able to present one of the more professional organisations in the competition.
