Koryu Kei Shin Kan Karate-Do is a sports club based in Launceston, Tasmania. Offering traditional Japanese karate, the club caters to people of all ages and levels of fitness. The training provided goes beyond physical activity, encompassing mental training as well. The club prides itself on adjusting the level and intensity of physical activity to suit each individual's capabilities.
At Koryu Kei Shin Kan Karate-Do, individuals of varying ages can be found training together. From kids and teenagers to adults in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, the club embraces diversity and believes that age should not limit anyone's ability to learn karate. Recognising that agility, flexibility, and strength vary across age groups, the club does not expect a 50-year-old to move like a 20-year-old or a 10-year-old to be as strong as a 30-year-old.
As a not-for-profit organisation, the Australia Kei Shin Kan Karate Federation aims to promote traditional karate-do in Australia. By training under Shihan Uchida and the instructors, individuals develop and grow both on physical and spiritual levels. Consistent dedication to karate training leads to improvements in mindset, endurance, and strength over the years.
The club's focus lies in developing self-discipline, patience, confidence, and respect for others. Through karate training, individuals also enhance their concentration, mental alertness, and mental agility. The physical benefits include improvements in physical health, flexibility, and overall wellbeing. Additionally, training at Koryu Kei Shin Kan Karate-Do helps members develop speed, power, timing, accuracy, and effective breathing techniques.
Learning correct basic techniques, kata (forms), controlled sparing, and self-defence techniques are also integral parts of the training programme. Moreover, the club emphasises the understanding and cultivation of the traditional spirit of Karate-Do.
With dojos internationally and nationally, Koryu Kei Shin Kan Karate Do has established a presence in New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania. The Launceston branch provides a welcoming environment for individuals looking to learn traditional Japanese karate and experience the benefits it has to offer.
Koryu Kei Shin Kan Karate-Do also offers an introductory course for those looking to get started. The first lesson is free, and the course continues for four weeks at a cost of $49. This course is an excellent opportunity for beginners to learn the basics and familiarise themselves with the martial art.
