Judo is an Olympic Sport that focuses on developing gymnastic skills, self-defence techniques, falling safely, balance, grappling, tackling, and overall fitness. At Kido Mingara Judo Academy, all of these skills are taught in a non-violent and sporting manner.
The club's main goal is to provide both technical and personal development to their members, with a strong emphasis on discipline. They have a proven track record of producing well-rounded sportspersons, with athletes representing Australia at the international level and even the Olympic Games.
Judo is an art of self-defence that has evolved into an international sport. It is a school sport in Japan, designed to promote physical and mental fitness through disciplined training. Judo was also the first martial art to be introduced into the Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games.
Unlike other martial arts, Judo does not involve any kicking or striking techniques. Instead, it focuses on throwing and grappling manoeuvres, all practised with safety in mind on specially designed mats. Participants are taught how to fall correctly, which is a crucial skill that can be applied in many other sports later in life. Flexibility, stretching, and strength exercises are also incorporated into the training sessions.
The Kido Mingara Judo Academy boasts a specially built sprung permanent mat area, which is frequently visited by international teams. The academy offers an excellent opportunity to increase physical fitness, self-esteem, and self-defence skills. It is also a sport that can be practised without the need to compete in tournaments, making it accessible to all individuals.
In addition to fun and fitness, the instructors at Kido Mingara Judo Academy place a strong emphasis on teaching judo etiquette and reinforcing the respect required to become a well-rounded sportsperson. The club has produced athletes up to Olympic level and has had multiple National, Oceania, and State Champions.
The success of the club is evident in their recent achievements. They have earned numerous National Championship medals, including 2 Gold, 4 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals, as well as 2 Oceania medals. Several members of the club have also represented Australia at international competitions.
Caroline Hain, a member of Kido Mingara Judo Academy, was selected to represent Australia at the World Titles in 2018 and will also be part of the team for the junior European Hungary + Poland Tour. This tour provides her with the opportunity to compete against high-level international opponents and evaluate her skills.
Whether you are looking for a fun and fitness activity, self-defence training, or aspiring to reach Olympic level, Kido Mingara Judo Academy offers a welcoming environment for people of all ages and genders to learn and practise Judo.
