Karate is defined as a form of combat developed from Chinese Boxing by the inhabitants of Okinawa. Among martial arts, karate is the art of “empty hand”. ( Kara – meaning empty, and Te- meaning hand). However for me karate has been more than just a means of combat, self-defence, or fitness.
It is a way of life.
As we have all heard the different concepts, and the dozens of theories about what karate is, it is only natural to be confused. From the magical to the mystical, to the spiritual, to the art of fighting without fighting, to the killing art, and so on, in reality, we have to come down to earth and start from the basics before we can transcend into thoughts or planes of superior order.
