Kariong United Football Club

Kariong United Football Club, located in the beautiful Central Coast of Australia, is a thriving sports club that has been serving the community since its establishment in 1989. Started by a small group of passionate parents, the club was created to provide a local sporting outlet for young children in the growing Kariong area. Today, Kariong United Football Club has become a respected and beloved part of the community, offering opportunities for both youth and senior players to participate in the exciting game of soccer.

With its vibrant red and yellow colours, Kariong United Football Club, also known as the Kariong Comets, takes pride in its rich history and achievements. The club was officially admitted to the Central Coast Soccer Association (CCSA) as the 19th club in 1990, marking the beginning of their hard work and dedication. Since then, the club has grown steadily, attracting not only young players but also parents who wish to relive their glory days on the field as coaches.

In its inaugural season, Kariong United Football Club fielded six junior teams consisting of 55 players, with the oldest team being U9. Each team cleverly chose nicknames related to the club's space theme, such as the U/6 Invaders, U/7 Martians, and U/7 Ewoks. Despite humble beginnings, the club quickly gained popularity, and by the following year, registrations increased to 105 players, including the formation of the club's first senior A/A team.

The club's home ground is located at Mt Penang, adjacent to the now heritage-listed buildings. In the early days, club meetings were held in the homes of committee members, creating a warm and informal atmosphere. Ground duties involved setting up an open canteen, where refreshments such as confectionery, drinks, hot dogs, and tea/coffee were sold using a gas cooker. Over the years, the club has made tremendous progress, acquiring a red and yellow tent to make the canteen less dependent on weather conditions.

Throughout its journey, Kariong United Football Club has witnessed great success, with its first Grand Final victory in 1992 achieved by the U/12s team. The club's dedication to player development and community involvement has resulted in a steady increase in membership, reaching a staggering 166 players in 1993. To manage the growing responsibilities, the club has invested in various positions and resources, including a dedicated executive committee, football committee, canteen coordinator, equipment officer, and much more.

Apart from providing excellent coaching and training resources, Kariong United Football Club takes pride in organising various events and activities for its members. Presentation days celebrate the achievements of players and teams, while the Annual General Meeting (AGM) provides an opportunity for members to have their voices heard. The club also actively seeks sponsorships and grants, creating opportunities for local businesses to support the community through sports.
